Fishermen's Buddy — Fishing Intelligence App
This Privacy Policy describes how Dubaya Apps (“we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, and protects information when you use the Fishermen's Buddy mobile application (“the App”). By using the App you agree to the practices described here.
Account information. When you create an account we collect your email address and the password you choose (stored as a secure hash — we never see it in plain text).
Location data. When you log a catch or start a fishing trip, the App collects your device’s GPS coordinates. Location is used to record where catches were made, display them on your catch map, look up local weather and tide conditions, and personalize fishing predictions to your region. Location is only accessed while you are actively using the App; we do not track your location in the background.
Catch and trip data. The App stores the catch records you create, including species, size, weight, bait used, notes, date and time, GPS coordinates, and automatically captured environmental conditions (air temperature, wind speed and direction, barometric pressure, cloud cover, water temperature, tide phase, and moon phase) at the time and location of each catch.
Species and prediction preferences. The App stores your species list, any custom species you create, and your personalized fishing prediction settings including seasonal range adjustments.
Catch photos. You may optionally attach a photo to a catch record, taken with your camera or chosen from your photo library. The photo itself is stored only on your device and is never uploaded to our servers; a local reference to the photo is included with your catch record so it displays correctly within the App on that device. When you take a photo inside the App, we also save a copy to your device's own photo library, so the picture is yours to keep and is covered by whatever backup you already use for your photos. The App only ever adds photos to your library — it never reads or scans the photos already in it.
Notification preferences. If you enable notifications, your preference settings are stored locally on your device. No notification data is transmitted to our servers.
We do not collect contacts, health data from device health services, financial information, or advertising identifiers. We use no third-party analytics or advertising SDKs.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or any purpose beyond operating the features you use in the App.
Supabase, Inc. (United States) — Your account and catch data is stored on servers operated by Supabase, a data processor we use for authentication and database services. Supabase processes your data solely on our behalf. See supabase.com/security.
Open-Meteo — When capturing conditions for a catch or generating a forecast, the App sends your GPS coordinates to Open-Meteo’s public weather API to retrieve current and historical weather data. No account information or personal identifiers are sent. See open-meteo.com/en/terms.
NOAA CO-OPS (U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) — The App sends your GPS coordinates to NOAA’s public tide prediction API to retrieve tide station data and predictions. No account information or personal identifiers are sent. NOAA is a U.S. government agency; see tidesandcurrents.noaa.gov.
WorldTides — Outside NOAA's coverage area, the App retrieves tide predictions from WorldTides instead. Your GPS coordinates are sent through our own server (never directly from your device) to keep our WorldTides account credentials private; no account information or personal identifiers about you are sent. See worldtides.info/privacy.
U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) — For catches near a U.S. river or lake, the App sends your GPS coordinates to USGS's public water-data API to retrieve real-time water temperature from the nearest gauge. No account information or personal identifiers are sent. USGS is a U.S. government agency; see usgs.gov/data-management/data-policy.
Sentry — If a part of the App encounters an unexpected error, a crash report may be sent to Sentry, our crash-reporting service, so we can fix it. A crash report can include your device model, OS version, app version, and a technical stack trace of the error — never your catch data, account password, or location history. See sentry.io/privacy.
A copy of your own data on your phone. The App keeps its own copy of your catches, trips, species list and prediction settings on your device, so that everything you have logged stays readable when you have no signal — which, out on the water, is most of the time. This copy is created from data you have already entered; it is not additional information about you, and it is never sent anywhere except to your own account. Anything you record without a connection is held on the phone until it can be sent, and is then kept in step with your account automatically. Deleting the App removes this copy from your device.
Notification preferences are stored locally on your device using encrypted device storage and are never transmitted to our servers.
Your phone’s own backup — Like most apps, the information Fishermen’s Buddy keeps on your device is included in whatever backup your phone already makes (Google One on Android, iCloud on iPhone), if you have that switched on. That covers your catch photos, your app settings, and the sign-in token that keeps you logged in — which is how your photos come back when you reinstall the App or set up a new phone. These backups are made and held by Apple or Google under their own privacy policies; we neither create them nor have any access to them. You can turn the backup off in your phone’s settings, but your catch photos will then only exist on the phone itself.
We retain your account and catch data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal information and content from our systems within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it by applicable law.
The App’s copy of your catches, trips and settings remains on your device for as long as the App is installed, so that your fishing history is available without a connection. Anything you record while offline is held on the device until it can be sent to your account. Deleting the App removes this copy from your phone; deleting your account removes the data from our systems as described above.
You may update your email address at any time within the App’s settings. You may delete individual catch records or trips within the App at any time, without deleting your account.
To delete your account and associated data, email fishermensbuddy@dubayaapps.com with the subject “Account Deletion Request” from the email address on your account. We will delete your account and personal information within 30 days and confirm by email once complete.
You can disable location access at any time in your device’s system settings. Without location access, the App cannot auto-capture conditions or display your catches on the map, but you can still manually browse your existing catch history.
If you are in the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, or California, you may also have rights to access, correct, or port your personal data. To exercise these rights please contact us.
The App is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Effective Date” below. We encourage you to review this page periodically. Continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
